Steel Structure Supplier for Logistics Parks: How to Choose One That Delivers on Time

Your park has four warehouse blocks. Block A must open in June and Block B in September. Then your supplier ships all the steel in one lump in August, and Block A sits half built with rent running on the tenant’s side.

This happens more than it should. A good steel structure supplier for logistics parks plans deliveries around your opening dates, not around its own factory convenience. Here is what to check before you sign, from the fabrication side at Synergy PEB.

A park is not one big shed

Logistics parks have several buildings, phased handovers and a lot of repeat. One site might hold three or four warehouses of 80,000 to 120,000 sq ft each, plus a gatehouse, a truck shelter and an office block.

That mix punishes weak suppliers. A firm that has only built single sheds may handle one block well and then fall apart on the third. Ask how many multi-building sites they have handled.

What a steel structure supplier for logistics parks should show you

Start with proof, not promises. You should see four things.

A drawing set for your site, not a brochure. A written specification. A factory you can walk through. And a delivery plan by block.

If any of these is missing, you are buying hope.

Check capacity in MT per month

Do the arithmetic. A 100,000 sq ft warehouse needs roughly 250 to 300 MT of steel for the frame and secondary members. Four blocks means about 1,000 to 1,200 MT.

Now ask the supplier what their plant produces monthly, and how much of it is already booked. Our Nalagarh unit covers 70,000 sq ft and turns out over 1,000 MT a month. A plant that size can run your blocks in sequence without a long queue. A small workshop cannot, however confident the salesperson sounds.

Insist on batch delivery

Fix the delivery plan in the contract. Block A frames first, then Block B, and so on, each timed to your foundation progress. Your civil crew finishes a block, and the steel for that block is waiting.

Mark every piece with a block number and a sequence. Your erection team should open a bundle and find what they need next, not hunt through a pile.

Repeat the frame, save the money

Logistics parks reward repetition. Pick one bay size, say 9 m, and one clear span, say 36 m, and use them across blocks. Identical frames run through the factory faster, cut fewer drawing hours and cost less per tonne.

Custom spans for every building slow the line. Ask your supplier to show you the cheapest layout, not just the one you drew.

Tolerances decide your site schedule

Steel that arrives 5 mm out causes pain at height. Ask whether holes are drilled and checked in the factory, and whether the supplier does trial assembly of critical frames before dispatch.

When parts fit first time, your erection crew bolts instead of grinding. On a four-block park, that saves weeks.

Coating and sheets

Main frames normally use IS 2062 E350 plate with a primer and finish coat. Purlins should be galvanised Z sections. Roof sheets should be at least 0.5 mm with a proper coating, and the quote must state it.

A thinner sheet makes one bidder look cheaper. It also dents sooner and leaks sooner. Put specifications side by side before you read any totals.

Codes your supplier must follow

Design should follow IS 800:2007. Wind comes from IS 875 Part 3, and earthquake checks from IS 1893 Part 1. Ask who signs the structural drawings, and ask for the design loads in writing.

High-bay storage often needs ESFR sprinklers under NBC 2016 Part 4, and rooftop solar adds roughly 0.15 kN per sq m. Tell your supplier about both before drawings are frozen. Adding them afterwards means strengthening steel you have already paid for.

Who erects it

A supplier that only sells steel hands the problem to a subcontractor at the worst moment. When a column is 20 mm off, nobody owns it.

Pick a steel structure supplier for logistics parks that fabricates and erects with its own people. At Synergy PEB, design, fabrication and erection stay in one company, so a site problem reaches the people who made the part within hours.

Red flags in a quote

  • A price per kilogram with no drawing attached.
  • No mention of wind speed or seismic zone for your plot.
  • A total far below the others, with no explanation.
  • No delivery plan by block.
  • A refusal to show the plant.

Questions to ask before you shortlist

Use this list with every bidder. These are the questions that separate a serious steel structure supplier for logistics parks from a trader.

  • What is your monthly capacity, and how much is booked?
  • Can you deliver block by block?
  • Who designs, who fabricates, who erects?
  • What are the steel grade, sheet thickness and coating?
  • What does the price leave out?

Get answers in writing. Vague replies now mean arguments later.
